The American Latvian Association (ALA) has joined LatCham as a non-profit member. The American Latvian Association is the main representative organization for the Latvian American community. Through 163 member organizations, churches, clubs and some 6,000 individual members we represent over 100,000 people of Latvian descent living in the United States. We are a non-profit, tax exempt educational and cultural organization registered as a private and voluntary organization with the U.S. Agency for International Development. The ALA will be represented by ALA President, Juris Mezinskis, and ALA executive director, Raits Eglitis.

Aleksandrs Racenis joins the Latvian Chamber of Commerce in the Americas as a summer intern. He is responsible for several duties in the new LatCham office in Fairfax, VA; including managing LatCham contacts, writing and sending press releases, bookkeeping, website assistance, events coordination projects, and economics and business related research. In the Fall, Aleksandrs will return to Franklin College Switzerland to finish his BA in International Economics and minor in Business Management.
The law practice was started in 1965 in Babylon, NY. Over the years they have defended criminal cases, immigration cases, domestic relations matters and all types of real estate and business transactions. Currently the practice is concentrated on commercial litigation, real property, trusts and estates.

The World Federation of Free Latvians has joined LatCham as a non-profit member. WFFL is a non-profit org. whose mission is to support and encourage the continued development of democracy in Latvia and to provide leadership in cultural and educational activities to the Latvian community outside Latvia.
The WFFL will be represented in the Chamber by Mr. Martins Sausins, President of the WFFL.

It was with great pleasure and honor that I participated in the NASDAQ stock exchange closing bell ceremony on July 22, 2011 with the Prime Minister of Latvia, Valdis Dombrovskis. I was greeted by beautiful moving images of Latvia, both urban and pastoral, that were superimposed continuously on the semi-circular NASDAQ building in Times Square for the hundreds of thousands of New York City pedestrians to see.
Upon arrival to the NASDAQ I joined the Prime Minister and his distinguished guests in the NASDAQ closing bell taping room. The President of Latvia, Valdis Zatlers, on Saturday moved to dissolve the Latvian parliament. He took these steps after the parliament blocked a corruption probe being led by the judicial branch of the Latvian government.
President Zatlers historic speech emphasized the importance of respecting each branch of government and he highlighted that this was not the first time in the recent past where the legislature has been at odds with the judicial branch. December 2010 marks the beginning of a new era for Latvian business growth and expansion with the foundation of the Latvian British Chamber of Commerce (LBCC).
