LatCham President, Gustavs Plato, and LatCham member Uldis Salenieks (LIAA) met with Mark Gibb yesterday of the The Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC). They are a regional council of fourteen member governments in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC.
LatCham, which has incorporated as a Virginia based non-profit. LatCham intends to operate its headquarters in Northern Virgina and will have virtual regional centers accross the country for LatCham members in other parts of the country. LatCham shared its vision with NVRC as the first step in beginning to integrate into the Virginia business, political, and social communities.
The Northern Virginia Region has been receptive to Latvia in the past. In 2007, twenty-three local elected officials from Latvia spent two days visiting NVRC, Leesburg, Herndon and Fairfax County learning about local governments, tourism and economic development.
Follow up meetings are anticipated later in December.
